The Chicago White Sox have avoided quite the injury scare, as star slugger Jose Abreu is day-to-day after being hit by a pitch.

There was plenty of panic in the Chicago White Sox dugout on Sunday. That’s because star first baseman Jose Abreu was drilled by a pitch and he screamed out in pain as he fell to the ground. It really looked bad.

With all the injuries that have gone down for the club this season, the last thing Chicago needs is for Abreu to miss a significant amount of time. Fortunately, that doesn’t look to be the case, as the team has already come out and said he’s day-to-day.

Jose Abreu suffered a minor knee injury against the Seattle Mariners

The good news is that the X-rays came back negative on Abreu’s knee. At the end of the day, it just looks like he is a little banged up, but nothing is too serious. Abreu of course is no stranger to scary incidents, as he missed some action earlier this season following a rough collision.

When he went down on Sunday, Chicago supporters surely assumed that some more bad news was on the way. Luckily, again, there’s nothing serious here. Abreu is a key part of the lineup, as he’s belted 12 homers thus far in 2021 and added 53 RBI.

Thanks to his skills at the dish, Abreu has helped the White Sox post a 44-31 record, which has them in first place of the AL Central standings. Moving forward, Chicago will try to do everything possible to try and prevent the Indians from catching up to them. In order for that to happen, Abreu will no doubt need to remain healthy. While he’s in plenty of pain right now, look for him to get back on the field sooner than later.
