The Boston Red Sox started off their beatdown on the New York Yankees quickly on a first pitch home run by Kiké Hernandez.

The Boston Red Sox were on a mission this weekend to continue pushing the rival New York Yankees down the AL East standings. They already won all of their five meetings, and looked to complete their second sweep of the season against the Bronx Bombers. And they wasted little time in making that goal become a reality.

Yankees fans had some hope entering the Sunday matinee game, as ace Gerrit Cole took the mound to hopefully end the pain and lead the team to a win. That did not happen, as the first pitch he threw was crushed into seats of the Green Monster by Red Sox outfielder Kiké Hernandez to give Boston an early 1-0 lead.

The Red Sox were not done inflicting damage to the Yankees in the bottom of the first inning. After allowing a double to outfielder Alex Verdugo and issuing a walk to designated hitter J.D. Martinez, Cole surrendered a three-run home run to third baseman Rafael Devers to give the Red Sox an early 4-0 lead.

It was a great day at the ballpark for Red Sox fans, while Yankees fans looked for something else to do on their Sunday off.
