The Atlanta Hawks will be without star guard Trae Young for Game 4 against the Milwaukee Bucks due to a foot injury.

The Atlanta Hawks were dealt a huge scare in Game 3 after star guard Trae Young appeared to injure his right ankle after stepping on the foot of an on-court official. Hawks fans were sent into panic mode and holding out hope that he would be ready to go for Game 4 against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

That is not going to be the case.

Why is Trae Young not playing?

According to ESPN’s Malika Andrews and Adrian Wojnarowski, Young has been ruled out for Game 4 due to what is described as a “deep bone bruise in his right foot.” Young tried to get ready for the pivotal Eastern Conference Finals game on Tuesday but is dealing with a “severe lack of mobility” and “significant degree of pain.”

Prior to this report, Young was deemed a game-time decision.

Hawks: Trae Young ruled out for Game 4 vs. Bucks with deep bone bruise

As Wojnarowski notes in the tweet above, Young will continue to rehabilitate his right foot in hopes of him being well enough to play for Game 5.

This was not the news that the Hawks needed to hear, especially with the team down 2-1 in the series to the Bucks. Young was giving the Bucks fits in Game 3, where he dropped 32 points up until his injury in the third quarter. His foot not being at 100 percent will hurt his game and make the Hawks’ job of winning games that much more difficult.

Deep bone bruise recovery timeline

Each person recovery differently but a deep bone bruise that Young has can be healed in a matter of a few days. Some people will take longer than a week to get but some heal quicker with endless treatment that Young is receiving. The bigger question is whether the Hawks can stay alive long enough for him to return.

Through the first three games of the Eastern Conference Finals, Young is averaging 32.7 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 46.6-percent from the field and 30.8-percent from the three-point line.

With Young out, Milwaukee’s chances of winning Game 4 significantly increased. You can never rule out an upset victory by Atlanta, but it will be a large mountain for them to climb without their best player on the court. Until then, Hawks fans will hold out hope that Young will be ready to go for Game 5 on Thursday.
