The Phoenix Suns are heading back to the NBA Finals for the first time in 28 years. How many times have they been there before?

The Phoenix Suns are Western Conference Champions, with a shot at their first NBA title.

Chris Paul, Devin Booker and company now just have to await their opponent from the Eastern Conference, whether it’s the Milwaukee Bucks or Atlanta Hawks.

How many times have the Suns made it this far in the NBA Playoffs in the past?

Phoenix Suns Finals history

Phoenix has played in the NBA Finals twice before.

The last time the Suns made it was in 1993, with Charles Barkley leading the way. Barkley won the league MVP award that season while guiding Phoenix past the Lakers in the first round and the Spurs in the second round.

The Western Conference Finals that season were against the Seattle SuperSonics. The Suns won in seven games.

However, when they got to the NBA Finals they ran into Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. They lost in six games.

The only other time the Suns reached the Finals was in 1976.

Forward Alvan Adams won the Rookie of the Year Award before Phoenix stormed through the Western Conference. They bested the SuperSonics in Round 1, then bested the Warriors in the conference finals.

The NBA Finals pitted the Suns against the Boston Celtics. The home team won each of the first five games of the series, including a triple-overtime victory for the Celtics in Game 5. However, Boston got the better of Phoenix in Game 6 to claim the championship.

Phoenix came close to the NBA Finals a couple of times since their last appearance. Steve Nash got the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2005 and 2006, then again in 2010. They couldn’t get over the hump with that group.
