Harry Kane had the hearts of England fans in their throats when he missed a penalty, only to grab the rebound to put England ahead over Denmark.

Soccer is a sport of highs and lows, sometimes coming together in the span of seconds.

During the Euros semifinal between England and Denmark, Harry Kane produced a prime example of that phenomenon.

Kane stepped up to take a penalty in extra time with the chance to put England ahead 2-1. He went right, but so did Danish keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who saved the penalty attempt.

It was ecstasy for Denmark and agony for England before it flipped in the matter of a moment. The rebound came back straight for the striker, who slotted it home for the go-ahead goal.

The reaction of England fans was classic.

Harry Kane puts England ahead in extra time

Denmark struck first in the semifinal when Mikkel Damsgaard struck gold on a spectacular free kick past Jordan Pickford in the 30th minute.

England didn’t need long to respond. Simon Kjaer was responsible for an own goal in the 39th minute under pressure from Raheem Sterling.

The two sides remained in deadlock through the second half of play. Extra time arrived with both feeling the pressure to make something happen, particularly the English.

Sterling was again at the center of the second goal. He drove into the penalty area and went down to draw a penalty. A VAR check was necessary to confirm the arguably soft penalty, but the officials opted not to overturn the call.

Kane tied Gary Lineker for the most goals by an England player at major tournaments with 10, moving clear of Alan Shearer in second.

With the 2-1 win, England will take on the Italians in the final on Sunday. Italy bested Spain in penalty kicks on Tuesday.
