Seniesa Estrada dominates Tenkai Tsunami, talks smack to Esparza
Seniesa Estrada became a two-division world champion by defeating Tenkai Tsunami by unanimous decision. Tsunami was tough, but Estrada was better.
Seniesa Estrada continued her winning ways on Friday, July 9, by thoroughly out-boxing Tenkai Tsunami to win the WBO light flyweight title. At 29 years old, Estrada is quickly becoming one of the best female fighters in all of boxing.
In her previous bout, Estrada defeated Anabel Ortiz for the WBA minimum title. Estrada added Tsunami’s WBO belt to her collection to become a two–division champion.
Tsunami (28-13-1, 16 KOs) didn’t come into the fight with a perfect record, but she was riding a two-fight winning streak with a draw before that.
Estrada switched back-and-forth between orthodox, and southpaw stances start round 1. Estrada’s fast hands froze Tsunami for most of the round. It was a good start for Estrada.
Estrada targeted Tsunami’s body in round two. She continued to confuse Tsunami by switching her stance. Tsunami stayed game and fought back towards the end of the round, but it wasn’t enough to win the round.

Despite being the same height, Tsunami looked like the bigger fighter, and her punches had a bigger impact. Her power showed in round 4, but Estrada still landed the cleaner combinations.
Estrada appeared to hurt Tsunami with a combination to the head in round 5. However, Tsunami weathered the storm and took Estrada’s best punches.
Round 7 erupted into a war. Estrada and Tsunami traded to the body for the first minute. Estrada landed more accurately, but Tsunami kept moving forward. It was another Estrada round, but Tsunami showed grit.
Estrada grew stronger as the fight went on. She trapped Tsunami on the ropes in rounds 8 and 9 and pounded away. Again, Tsunami took it but dropped both rounds.
Nothing changed in round 10 as Estrada cruised to victory. The fight went the distance, and judges returned scores of 99-91 and two of 98-92 all for Estrada.

Former Estrada opponent Marlen Esparza was ringside. Estrada was asked about the possibility of a rematch with Esparza, but she didn’t see a reason for it. She called Esparza a quitter and challenged her to a fight in the parking lot. It turns out Estrada has fast hands and wit.
