Angel Hernandez is completely off the hook when it comes to the automated strike zone.

The automated strike zone being used in the Atlantic League is so horrendously awful that it actually makes Angel Hernandez look competent behind the plate.

During Friday night’s game between the Lexington Legends and the Lancaster Barnstormers, Legends infielder Jordan Pacheco goes down on strike three with the bases loaded on a pitch that was a full foot outside. This was a call made by the automated strike zone and not the umpire behind the plate. Once again, this is why we cannot trust technology in the game of baseball.

Pacheco was so beside himself about the egregious error that he took to Twitter after the game.

Automated strike zone actually makes Angel Hernandez look good at his job

The automated strike zone is calling obvious balls strikes these days. It does not matter of the ball sails into the first base dugout or skips 10 feet in front of him plate, if the automated strike zone says it is a strike, then it is a strike. Pitchers do not have to use Spider Tack any more if they are getting a strike zone the size of the Atlantic Ocean over in the Atlantic League. How embarrassing.

If the automated strike zone makes its way to the MLB, expect the best umpires in the game and all the fans to have a major problem with it. The only people who will enjoy this are guys with incredibly liberal strike zones to begin with, pitchers who have no control whatsoever or the nerds who developed this faulty automated strike zone. There is bad, and then there is whatever this is.

This is why we have to trust the umpires to call balls and strikes because the computers are evil.
