As Team USA men’s basketball seeks its fourth straight gold medal, fans are probably wondering, is LeBron James in the 2021 Olympics?

Throughout his illustrious basketball career, LeBron James has won numerous awards, including three Olympic medals. However, when Team USA hits the court for the men’s basketball tournament at Tokyo 2021, the King will not be there.

LeBron is 36 years old, which means, sadly, he’s played more basketball games than he has remaining. Eventually, time takes its toll on every athlete, like it or not. USA Basketball Managing Director, Jerry Colangelo, recently confirmed to the Washington Post that unfortunately, we have most likely seen the last of LeBron’s days in a Team USA jersey.

While LeBron is certainly still worthy of representing his country at the Olympics, he sat out Rio 2016 and signaled weeks ago he would not be heading to Tokyo either. His focus remains on winning a fifth NBA title next season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James will not play for Team USA at Tokyo 2021 Olympics

With no plans to add to his Olympic hardware collection, LeBron will instead spend the short NBA offseason with the Goon Squad. The Lakers star is getting set for the release of his fifth feature film, Space Jam: A New Legacy, in which he stars as himself. The long-awaited sequel hits the big screens on July 16, 2021.

Thanks to his basketball prowess and business savvy, LeBron is on track to become a billionaire later this year. Unfortunately — but somewhat understandably — playing for Team USA at the Olympics was not his highest priority. Instead, the Dream Team will be headlined by Kevin Durant, James Harden, Damian Lillard, Devin Booker, and others. Even without LeBron, Team USA will be heavy favorites to win gold at Tokyo 2021.
