Who is in the Home Run Derby 2021, what time does it start, and where can you watch?

Let’s just cut to the chase: The Home Run Derby is basically just the Shohei Ohtani show.

There will be seven other participants in the Derby, but everyone is coming to see one man. Ohtani is rightfully the main draw of the night, as the hype around the best all-around player in the league has been steadily growing throughout the first half of the season.

Casual baseball fans have a chance to indulge in what baseball traditionalists have been fawning over all this time. Comparisons have been drawn between Ohtani and Babe Ruth, and he’s miraculously living up to and surpassing those expectations.

Through the first half of the season, Ohtani has 33 home runs, 56 extra-base hits, a .698 slugging percentage, has stolen 12 bases in 16 attempts, and shares the league lead in triples. He has also 4-1 in 13 starts on the mound and boasts a 3.49 ERA with 87 strikeouts in 67 innings.

What he’s doing is historic, and it’s the type of stuff that traditionalists love and modern fans have a chance to appreciate in its time. Ohtani is the center of one of the most impossible Venn diagrams in sports, and tonight is everyone’s chance to get in on the fun.
