Scouting Report. . Zay Jones. 28. Pick Analysis. WR, Raiders. 2.. player

Jones suited up for every game for the Raiders last season. But don’t take that to mean he played a lot (289 snaps), or produced much (14 receptions for 154 yards, one touchdown). This offseason, the team signed veterans John Brown and Willie Snead upon losing Nelson Agholor in free agency.

Heading toward training camp, Henry Ruggs, Brown, Bryan Edwards, Hunter Renfrow and Snead are ahead of Jones on the depth chart. In particular, there’s internal optimism about the two second-year guys, Ruggs and Snead.

With five guys virtual locks for the final 53, Jones will compete with guys like Trey Quinn, Keelan Doss, Dillon Stoner, DJ Turner and Caleb Scott for what will be two roster spots at wide receiver? Getting him through being cut and bringing him back to the practice squad would be a miss-allocation of one of those spots.

Jones is who he is at this point in his career. He may get an opportunity elsewhere when the Raiders cut him loose, and he may even ask for that move to be made at a certain point. But he won’t stand out enough in camp, or in any preseason games he plays in for the Raiders, to credibly last long on the roster.
