As they look to add some scoring punch this offseason, the Golden State Warriors are rumored to have Carmelo Anthony on their radar.

With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, the return of Klay Thompson and two top-15 picks in the draft, the Golden State Warriors looked poised for a run back toward the top of the Western Conference next season. According to Bram Hillsman of Warriors Huddle, via the Locked On Warriors podcast, Carmelo Anthony could be a veteran piece Golden State looks to add this offseason.

At 37 years old now, Anthony is no longer one of the NBA’s top scorers. But he did average 13.4 points per game while shooting just shy of 41 percent from 3-point range for the Portland Trail Blazers this season, in mostly a bench role (three starts in 69 games). In 2019-20, he averaged 15.4 points per game while starting all 58 games he played for Portland.

The Warriors and Carmelo Anthony look like a match

As Anthony looks to win a championship before his career is over, Golden State looks like a nice fit. However, very early in his tenure with the Trail Blazers, he made it clear how he felt about the fit there.

“I feel like this is the place for me to end my career,” he said in January of 2020. “It could have happened earlier, but it didn’t. Now, where I’m at in my life and my career—this is where I want to retire.”

Locked on Warriors podcast host Wes Goldberg pointed to Portland’s need to improve defensively and Golden State’s need for offense as reasoning Anthony might be a better fit for the Warriors. Both teams are in line to reshuffle their rosters around their star player this offseason.

Multiple teams looking to add some offense to their bench will have interest in Anthony. But the Warriors are the most interesting potential suitor for the future Hall of Famer.
