Lincoln Riley asserts his dominance over the rest of the Big 12 during Big 12 Media Days.

Oklahoma football head coach Lincoln Riley likes to burn everything, from Easter brisket to every other team in his Power Five conference during Big 12 Media Days.

In his opening remarks at the podium, he said it was good to be back in the Sooners’ second home of Arlington, Texas. For those outside of the Big 12 footprint, this is a most savage burn of the rest of the Power Five conference. Since coming back in 2017, the Big 12 Championship game has been held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas annually, and Oklahoma has been to all four games.

As the head coach of the six-time defending Big 12 champions, Riley has every right to say this.

To date, only four other teams have been to the Big 12 title bout under its current format: The 2017 TCU Horned Frogs, the 2018 Texas Longhorns, the 2019 Baylor Bears and the 2020 Iowa State Cyclones. Although Baylor and Iowa State only lost by one possession, they still lost to the Sooners. Once again, Oklahoma is favored to win the Big 12 and make the College Football Playoff.

Oklahoma’s problem has not been in Big 12 play. It has been winning a single national semifinal game upon making it into the College Football Playoff. While one ESPN insider believes this could be the year for Oklahoma to win the whole thing, Alex Grinch’s defense has to be massively improved if it wants to beat two teams in a row such as Alabama, Clemson, Georgia or Ohio State.

It is pretty clear Riley is just hoping one of the nine other Big 12 teams can challenge his Sooners.
