We can’t believe it, but Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy got rid of his mullet.

We have sad news from Big 12 Media Days in Arlington, Texas: Oklahoma State football head coach Mike Gundy no longer has his mullet.

No, this is not the first time he lopped off his Alabama waterfall, but we sure hope it is the last. There is nothing quite like watching the extra little bit of lettuce on the back of his head bounce in the Oklahoma wind shortly before losing another installment of Bedlam. Though he still has plenty of time to get his flow back in order, this is a gut-punch to fellow long-haired dudes like myself.

So if you see some guy with epic hockey hair pouring one out this afternoon, now you know why.

Oklahoma State football: Mike Gundy cut his mullet before Big 12 Media Days

While we must respect Gundy’s choice of going to the barber, one of the greatest bastions for letting it flow has punted from the opponent’s 39-yard line. That is not how you win the Big 12. You have to go for it when you have the defense on its heels, perpetually in awe of basking in the glory of your epic flow. This is not a choice, but a lifestyle. We are so unbelievably disappointed.

I mean, I get it. It’s hot outside and trying to run a comb through that filthy lion’s mane you have concocted is easier said than done. But when the weather starts to change and the leaves start hitting the ground, there is no better way to look like you mean serious business in autumn than having the best looking Alabama waterfall this side of the Mississippi River. We must let it flow.

If the regret from lopping off the mullet has not set in for Gundy yet, it surely will be coming soon.
