Fan who threw baseball at Alex Verdugo banned for life from all MLB ballparks

The fan who threw and hit Boston Red Sox player Alex Verdugo in the back Saturday night received swift and forceful punishment from the MLB.

The MLB had a pretty rough Saturday night. First, there was a shooting outside of Nationals Park during the Washington Nationals vs. San Diego Padres game, where multiple people were shot. Then, at Yankee Stadium, not only were there torrential downpours, but a fan made a silly decision that ended up costing him big time.

In the sixth inning, the supposed “fan” threw a baseball at Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo, hitting him in the back. Verdugo exchanged words with the assailant, and Boston manager Alex Cora pulled his team off the field until things cooled down.

“While the Yankees appreciate the spirit and passion of our fans in our various rivalries — especially with the Red Sox – reckless, disorderly and dangerous behavior that puts the safety of players, field staff or fellow fans in jeopardy will not be tolerated,” the Yankees said in a statement, per NJ.com. “There is absolutely no place for it at Yankee Stadium.

The team punished the fan for his actions, and the MLB took it a step further with even greater punishment.

The fan who hit Alex Verdugo with baseball is banned from all MLB ballparks for life.

The Yankees banned the fan who threw and hit Verdugo with the baseball Saturday from Yankee Stadium for life, according to NJ.com. The team will meet with authorities Sunday night to give all information they have gathered about the situation. In addition, the MLB forbids the person from all other league ballparks for life.

The individual who threw the ball was not arrested, only escorted out of the stadium after the incident, per NJ.com. Safety is a top priority for the MLB and its players, and they are doing the right thing by removing this fan from their ballparks.

“The safety of everyone at Yankee Stadium, including guests in the stands and players on the field, will always be the top priority for the Yankees organization every time we open our doors,” the Yankees said.
