The Detroit Tigers produced a football score against the Texas Rangers, so it was only natural for them to bring the Cowboys into their trolling.

When you win a baseball game by double-digits, you’re entitled to have a little fun on social media.

That’s what the Detroit Tigers did after demolishing the Texas Rangers 14-0 on Monday.

Miguel Cabrera was the star performer with five RBI, but the Tigers social media team were the big winners after the game with a perfect approach to that scoreline.

The football score inspired some top-notch banter between Detroit and the state of Texas.

The Tigers took a dig at the Cowboys on behalf of the Lions

“And the Lions take a 14-0 lead over the Cowboys!” the Tigers tweeted with a picture of the Tigers-Rangers score.

Their follow-up was even better: “Now is a good time to remind you the Cowboys committed pass interference in the 2015 NFC Wild Card game and the refs missed that call.”

Don’t remember that play? Fans in Detroit definitely do.

In the fourth quarter of the 2015 NFC Wild Card, the Lions had driven across midfield while leading 20-17. On third down, the refs threw a flag for pass interference, which would have extended Detroit’s drive. However, the officials huddled and rescinded the penalty, resulting in a fourth down for the Lions.

Detroit ended up punting and the Dallas Cowboys went on to score a touchdown on the ensuing drive. The Lions were unable to answer and lost the game 24-20.

Detroit has been back to the NFL Playoffs just once since then, also falling in the Wild Card round in 2016.

The Tigers are on a four-game winning streak with a series sweep over the Minnesota Twins and Monday’s big win over the Rangers. They are 44-51 and 13.5 games back in the AL Central, so they might as well have some fun trolling when the opportunity presents itself.

The series with Texas will continue on Tuesday in Detroit.
