All eyes were on the Seattle Kraken earlier this week. Now, the rest of the teams in the NHL get to make some draft picks.

On Friday evening, the Buffalo Sabres will have their second No. 1 overall pick in the last four years. The lottery worked in their favor on that front, as did their league-worst record.

Last time they picked first in 2018, they selected defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. This time, they’re likely to stay on defense with Michigan’s Owen Power looking like the No. 1 overall pick. Alternatively, Buffalo could shake things up by going with Power’s Wolverine teammate Matt Beniers.

The Kraken will have second dibs on the players in the draft pool, followed by the Ducks, Devils and Blue Jackets.

The first round of the 2021 NHL Draft will be broadcast by ESPN2 on Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET. The second round will start off Day 2 on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. ET on NHL Network.

Unfortunately, the event will be all virtual again this year because of COVID-19. As it is, the draft is later in the year than usual. Fans can hope for things to be back to normal again when the next draft comes around.
