With Aaron Rodgers returning to the Green Bay Packers for at least one more season, Davante Adams is now open to an extension with the franchise.

In the latest sage surrounding the Green Bay Packers, the future of Davante Adams, 28, appears to be getting a little less cloudy.

On the heels of Aaron Rodgers restructuring his contract to return to the Packers for at least one more year and opening up some salary cap space, his top receiver is now open to cementing his future in Green Bay.

Davante Adams said he was not open to a contract extension as early as last week when the future of Rodgers was in question. However, things can change quickly, and with Rodgers returning for at least one more year, Adams is now open to a contract extension with the club that took him out of Fresno State.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news of Adams being open to staying in Green Bay.

DeAndre Hopkins vs. Davante Adams the subject of contract extension talks

Adams will want to be the NFL’s highest-paid receiver in a new deal. DeAndre Hopkins holds that distinction with an average annual salary of $27.25 million as part of the two-year deal he signed after he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Packers are going to be hesitant to sign Adams to that type of money on a per-year basis.

Adams will receive $14.5 million this season in the final year of a $58 million dollar contract.

The starting point for Adams will be the 5-year, $100 million contract signed by Amari Cooper to return to the Dallas Cowboys. He received $40 million at the time of signing. He was 25 at the time of signing. Adams will be 29 next March when free agency opens.

Adams may not sign for more than $100 million or top the AAV of Hopkins but if the Packers want to retain the All-Pro, they’ll have to give him at least $40 million in guaranteed money.

Adams should be among the top-five highest-paid receivers on his new deal a far as total value is concerned.

Adams is coming off an All-Pro season that saw him haul in 115 receptions for 1,374 yards and an NFL-high 18 touchdowns. He also led the NFL in yards per game with 98.1. He was just named to the 99 club on Madden22.
