Conference realignment rumors: Would Clemson and Florida State leave the ACC for the SEC?
Now that Texas and Oklahoma are leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, some are wondering if Florida State and Clemson will be the next to join the conference.
Conference expansion and realignment is back in college sports.
Oklahoma and Texas are leaving the Big 12 where they were founding members in favor of the SEC and their TV money and revenue sharing that will trump what the Big 12 offered.
The details are still left to be worked out with the move to the SEC, but it is expected to happen, possibly within a few weeks. However, now that this move is in the works, speculation has begun about an old rumor that Clemson and Florida State will look to join the SEC too.
Are Clemson and Florida State going to join the SEC too?
The SEC would love to have Clemson and Florida State but it’s not going to happen.
While Florida State and Clemson would love to take the added revenue the SEC has with their TV deal with Disney/ESPN, they aren’t going to be let out of the ACC, nor are they pursuing a leave.
This is just rumor and wild speculation from fans and people on social media wondering if such a move is the next domino to fall.
Naturally, few on the outside would have seen Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 for the SEC just last week. That move came together quickly but reportedly was in the works for as long as six months. We just didn’t know about it.
But rest assured, Clemson and Florida State aren’t working the back channels to facilitate a move out of the ACC to the SEC or Big Ten or any other conference.
