Mets insider drops the hammer on any Max Scherzer trade rumors

New York Mets fans were hoping that the team would pull off a trade for starting pitcher Max Scherzer, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. 

Where will Washington Nationals star pitcher Max Scherzer be traded to? With the deadline on July 30, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the veteran is shipped to a different team and different city.

This week, word had spread that the New York Mets were interested in pulling off a blockbuster move to try and get him to Flushing. According to SNY insider Andy Martino, there’s no way that ends up happening.

It doesn’t look like Max Scherzer will get traded to the New York Mets

This has got to be a bit of a gut punch for the Mets supporters. Folks got incredibly excited when they saw the news that Scherzer could potentially be headed to Citi Field. He’s a fantastic hurler and his track record speaks for itself.

However, Martino’s latest update basically eliminates any hope of him heading to Flushing. On the year, Scherzer is 7-4, sporting an impressive 2.83 ERA. He also has 142 strikeouts to his name, with an eye-opening 0.89 WHIP.

There’s double-digit teams interesting in landing his services and rightfully so. For the Mets, they’re in first place of the NL East standings with their 53-45 record. The Phillies are 3.5 games back at 50-49.

While this Scherzer news won’t make people happy, the team is still in the Kris Bryant sweepstakes. Just like Scherzer, the feeling surrounding Bryant is that he’ll end up getting traded in the coming days. New York seems serious in making something happen.
