Washington State head coach Nick Rolovich says he supports vaccines and those who get vaccinated, but he won’t get the COVID-19 vaccine himself.

On Tuesday, 11 head coaches from the Pac-12 turned up to Hollywood for Pac-12 Media. All except for Washington State’s Nick Rolovich.

Rolovich didn’t attend in person because the conference required all coaches and student-athletes in attendance to be fully vaccinated. He has declined to receive the vaccine.

The Pac-12 patched Rolovich in remotely instead. During his remarks, the head coach said his reasons for not getting the vaccine would remain private. However, he clarified his stance on the subject.

“I’m not against vaccinations. I wholeheartedly support those who choose to be vaccinated, including our players, staff, coaches,” Rolovich said.

Rolovich credited WSU with hosting educational sessions on the vaccine for the players and their parents, as well as the coaches and staff.

Whatever was said in those sessions, it didn’t change Rolovich’s mind on the matter. He says he plans to adhere to Washington State’s policies for unvaccinated people.

Despite his personal stance, Rolovich reported that roughly 75 percent of Cougars have been vaccinated. He’s not discouraging his players from getting it, but it will be interesting to see what the final number comes out to for the team.

“I think we all know this virus is deadly, and these vaccines are free,” Rolovich said. “I urge everyone to consider being vaccinated. I do.”

Rolovich would probably set a better example for people, particularly his players, considering the vaccine by getting the shot. His reasons for not doing so are his own.
