The new president of Oklahoma State, Kayse Shrum, had strong words criticizing Oklahoma for following Texas’ lead out of the Big 12 and into the SEC.

Oklahoma State is not happy with Oklahoma. In fact, new university president Dr. Kayse Shrum practically accused the Sooners of being traitors to their state.

“It is difficult to understand how an Oklahoma institution of higher education would follow the University of Texas to the detriment of the state of Oklahoma,” Shrum said in a statement once the Sooners and Longhorns took steps to leave the Big 12.

The Cowboys are rightly upset, along with the entire Big 12, for being left out to dry by the two powerhouses in the conference. All they can really do is take a shot at Oklahoma’s pride by painting them as a lackey for Texas.

Oklahoma State accused Oklahoma of breaching conference bylaws

Shrum didn’t just throw digs at Oklahoma. She claimed they breached conference bylaws by conspiring with Texas to leave for the SEC.

“This action was strategic, deliberate and results from months of planning with the SEC,” Shrum added. “These conversations, which developed over a long period, are a clear breach of the Big 12 Conference bylaws and broke the decades-long bond of trust between our universities.”

Lobbing that accusation is one thing. Disciplining Oklahoma for it is another. As it is, a slap on the wrist definitely won’t stop the Sooners from going forward with their move. They’ve already submitted a letter to the SEC requesting membership. All that’s left is for the conference to vote and for all parties to figure out when the change over will happen.
