Former Clemson football star quarterback Tajh Boyd now has a role on Dabo Swinney’s Tigers coaching staff for 2021.

Tajh Boyd is the latest former Clemson football player to have a role on Dabo Swinney‘s coaching staff.

While Boyd’s role has not been specified, the former standout quarterback is expected to be working on the offensive side of the ball. From 2010 to 2013, Boyd completed 64.3 percent of his passes for 11,904 yards, 107 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He would be a sixth-round pick by the New York Jets in 2014, but never appeared in an NFL game during his brief pro playing career.

Here is what Swinney said about Boyd and other former Clemson players taking on roles on his coaching staff.

“I mean, Clemson is Clemson family,” said Swinney at last week’s ACC Football Kickoff. “We’ve talked about that from day one when we built our program. I love being able to give a former player an opportunity where it’s warranted. It’s been cool to see so many guys pursue coaching … I love giving former players opportunities.”

Boyd joins former Clemson players such as running backs coach C.J. Spiller and most notably, offensive coordinator Tony Elliott on his coaching staff.

Clemson football: Tajh Boyd is latest Tigers star to coach with Dabo Swinney

As stated by Swinney, this all goes back to the notion of Clemson Family. Clemson has a one-of-a-kind football culture that has served it well during the College Football Playoff era. Understanding what it takes to win big at a school like Clemson should not be taken lightly. So when former Tigers stars like Boyd and Spiller join Swinney’s evolving coaching staff, people will take notice.

Swinney expects linebacker James Skalski to be a coach one day. He attributes his own coaching career to his former Alabama football head coach Gene Stallings for giving him a chance in this profession. Swinney was a former walk-on wide receiver who was not considering a coaching career until Stallings to another chance on him. He has proven to be an icon leading Clemson.

Look for Boyd to excel in his new Clemson chapter, this time as a coach on Swinney’s 2021 staff.
