1. Anthony Rizzo to the Red Sox

There seems a decent chance Anthony Rizzo could remain with the Cubs past the trade deadline. Still, if Chicago isn’t dead set on working out a new deal with the first baseman, there are trade partners out there.

The most intriguing is the Red Sox, who drafted Rizzo in the first place and need an upgrade at his position.

Rizzo is having a down year at the plate, so his trade value isn’t the best it’s ever been. Boston can’t exactly play hardball, given what they lack at first base. The Cubs could squeeze a couple of prospects out of them.

Fansided’s Alfonso Cerno floated a trade involving No. 6 prospect Tanner Houck, a pitcher, and another outfielder prospect.

It’s not the greatest return in the world, but it’s something. It’s certainly more than the Cubs will get if they let Rizzo walk.

Chicago hoped to be a buyer at the trade deadline, but it’s clear they’re now in a position to be active sellers. While it may be hard to let go of guys like Rizzo, that’s the business. If there are assets to gain, it’ll have to get done.
