The Yankees made a splash by trading for left-handed power hitter Joey Gallo, who needs to make a big change before arriving in New York.

Joey Gallo will play the rest of the 2021 season in pinstripes.

The Yankees reportedly agreed to trade for the All-Star lefty outfielder on Wednesday, sending a squadron of prospects to the Rangers to make it happen.

The playoff push is now on, with one of the game’s most powerful hitters joining the lineup in New York.

How did Yankees Twitter react to getting Joey Gallo?

The reaction to the trade was generally positive, with a focus on the upside of adding a hitter like Gallo.

The Yankees have definitely upgraded their lefty production at the plate.

They’ve also added a strong outfield presence.

However, Gallo’s penchant for striking out definitely got brought up in the discussion of the trade.

He’ll have to make up for the strikeouts by taking advantage of playing at Yankee Stadium.

The wildcard race in the American League is going to be fascinating.

Gallo will have to comply with New York’s strict appearance policy requiring players to have their hair cut above the collar and no beards. That means Gallo will have to shave.

But he doesn’t have to get rid of all the facial hair. Mustaches are allowed.

Rangers fans were sad to see Gallo go, but they’re getting a haul of prospects to enjoy.

Gallo is batting .223/.379./.490 with 25 home runs and 55 RBI. He leads the major leagues in walks, but his strikeout total is high at 125.

He joins the Yankees sitting third in the AL East at 52-47. They are three games out of the AL Wild Card places.
