ESPN put Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby in his place over a crazy cease and desist demand.

With Oklahoma and Texas leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby accused ESPN of conspiring to forever ruin his beloved Power Five conference.

Bowlsby put out a cease and desist demand to the television network that owns nearly all SEC programming content, and will own all of it in the coming years once the CBS SEC Game of the Week is no more. So if you want a good laugh today, check out the statement ESPN put out to the Big 12 commissioner on his accusations of conspiracy and his cease and desist demand attempt.

While ESPN has taken a few L’s of late, this was a massive win for the undefeated over the Big 12.

Oklahoma and Texas are the backbone, or rather, were the backbone of the Big 12. They are without question the two biggest brands in their Power Five conference. While the SEC has several massive brands of its own, Oklahoma and Texas should fit in very well with their new league that is all about college football. Bowlsby will be left holding the bag of the new Big Eight.

The Big 12 could look to add more teams in an attempt to stay alive, but anything short of an improbable Nebraska return is not going to cut it. Losing Oklahoma and Texas is crippling to the Big 12, and everyone knows this. With the Longhorns and the Sooners heading to the SEC possibly as early as next season, the Power Five had a good ride, but one that did not last even a decade.

ESPN’s response to Bowlsby only further signifies that the Big 12 is on life support at this time.
