The Philadelphia Phillies are hoping to add Bryon Buxton in a deal with the Minnesota Twins.

After seeing the Minnesota Twins deal starting pitcher Jose Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Philadelphia Phillies are inquiring on centerfield Byron Buxton‘s availability.

Philadelphia is in a three-team race for the NL East crown along with the division-leading New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies envision playing the often-injured Twins outfielder in centerfield, but the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports there are as many as six or seven teams interested in Buxton. Philadelphia may covet Buxton, but they may have to give up a lot to get him.

If the Phillies land Buxton, it could help them make the postseason for the first time a decade.

With the NL West having three strong teams in that division, it seems like only one team will be coming out of the NL East this year. While the Mets have been atop the division throughout the season, Atlanta and Philadelphia are not going away quietly. The Braves and the Phillies believe they are still in the mix to contend for a division crown this year by being only a few games back.
