This Mookie Betts injury update will have Dodgers fans smiling
The Los Angeles Dodgers are all set to get star outfielder Mookie Betts back from the hip injury that has kept him out the last two weeks.
Los Angeles Dodgers fans have plenty of reason to smile this week after the team completed trades for ace pitcher Max Scherzer and All-Star infielder Trea Turner.
If you thought things couldn’t get any better, think again. Mookie Betts is “good to go” for a return on Sunday.
“Just need to keep an eye on the hip,” Betts said, per Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA.
Betts has been missing from the Dodgers’ lineup since a pinch-hitting appearance on July 19 because of hip inflammation.
Mookie Betts will return to the Dodgers lineup on Sunday
Los Angeles will finish up a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, with Betts expected to make his return.
The team has a definitive feel-good vibe thanks to their trade deadline moves, but they need to pick things up at the ballpark. Since the All-Star break, the Dodgers are 6-8. Four of those losses came at the hands of the San Francisco Giants, the leaders in the NL West.
San Francisco has a three-game lead in the division, while the San Diego Padres are 2.5 games back from Los Angeles in the hotly contested race for first place.
Coming off a 1-2 series loss to their northern rivals, LA lost to Arizona on Friday in extra innings.
Betts’ return will undoubtedly help matters. Before landing on the IL, he was batting .270/.374/.502 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI. He was on a tear in mid-July, with 12 hits in his last 17 at-bats.
Dodgers fans can enjoy getting Betts back while waiting for the debuts for Scherzer and Turner. The former could take the mound within the coming week. However, Turner is on the COVID-19 list, which requires 10 days to return.
