No, Clemson and Florida State have not reached out to the SEC about joining the conference.

With another wave of conference realignment upon us, there was a bogus rumor started by radio host Marc Ryan who reported Clemson and Florida State reached out to the SEC about joining its growing super league.

While Clemson and Florida State are two traditional powers with rich football histories, why would the Tigers and the Seminoles want to jeopardize their chances of getting into the College Football Playoff, now and in the future, by leaving the ACC for the SEC? Clemson has won the ACC each of the last six seasons, while Florida State won the ACC during inaugural playoff season in 2014.

Though Clemson and Florida State would fit in nicely in the SEC, there is no validity to this rumor.

SEC football rumors: Clemson and Florida State did not reach out about joining

While the SEC unanimously approved adding Texas and Oklahoma as 15th and 16th members, the SEC isn’t expanding beyond that for the time being. Not to mention, Clemson and FSU are locked into their Grant of Rights contract through 2036.

Sure, they’d love to pocket the SEC money but they can’t get out of the ACC. So with that, they are not going anywhere.

Realignment is upon us, but Clemson and FSU aren’t leaving the ACC.
