Former Toronto Raptors teammates Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan could reunite as members of the Miami Heat in NBA free agency.

Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan could be teammates once again as members of the Miami Heat.

With Lowry expected to join the Heat by way of a sign-and-trade in his free agency, the longtime Toronto Raptors point guard could see a welcome face down in South Beach. NBA insider Marc Stein reports Miami has been looking at adding the San Antonio Spurs shooting guard in his free agency as well this offseason. Miami is expected to be one of the biggest spenders this summer.

The Heat are hoping this seasoned backcourt tandem can help Miami get back to the NBA Finals.

NBA rumors: Miami Heat may add DeMar DeRozan in addition to Kyle Lowry

While Lowry was able to help Toronto win its first NBA championship in 2018-19, DeRozan sadly had to watch his former teammate celebrate from afar, as he was the big piece going the Spurs’ way in the Kawhi Leonard deal. DeRozan got his buckets in San Antonio, but postseason success completely evaded the former USC and Toronto star throughout his three-year Texas tenure.

So how good can the Heat be with Lowry and DeRozan in their starting backcourt? Miami should push the Atlanta Hawks for divisional supremacy in the Southeast and should remain a top-six team in the Eastern Conference once again. However, the Heat will need more if they want to win more than one playoff series next season. Championship-pedigree or not, this move is interesting.

A Miami big four of DeRozan, Lowry, Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler certainly moves the needle.
