Mets fans scared straight with Javy Baez injury
By Scott Rogust
New York Mets fans received quite a scare when trade deadline acquisition Javier Baez came up lame during Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins.
The New York Mets simply needed to make a move ahead of the MLB trade deadline this past Friday to help maintain their lead in the NL East. So, they gave the Chicago Cubs and negotiated a deal to acquire shortstop Javy Baez. Things got off to a great start, as Baez hit a home run in his first game with the new team. Two days later, it appeared as though he suffered an injury.
During Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Baez came up lame when attempting to run out a ground ball in the top of the third inning. With Mets fans understandably panicking after seeing him limp to the dugout, they breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that Baez took the field to play shortstop for the bottom frame.
New York Mets: Javy Baez gets injury scare
Even though it was great to see Baez make his return to the field, it remains to be seen if he will stay through the full duration of the game.
New York is already without Francisco Lindor for an extended period of time. Losing Baez, who was acquired in part to replace him in that timespan, would be a crushing blow for a team already clinging to a playoff spot in the NL East division.
