Keep an eye on these four NBA players to receive their rookie max extensions this offseason.
With NBA free agency about to be underway, we should also pay attention to what eligible players could be receiving their max rookie extensions this summer.
Players selected in the 2018 NBA Draft will be eligible to receive these lucrative rookie max extensions. While some of these marquee players could eventually leave their teams of note in years down the line, right now, it makes incredible financial sense to stay put and collect those bigger checks. So what players are on the cusp of getting those massive second contracts?
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, these four players are about to make some serious bank.
NBA rumors: What players are slated to receive their rookie max extensions?
The four players of note Stein reports will likely get the five-year, $168-million extensions in early August are Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets small forward Michael Porter Jr. All of whom have done enough in three years to earn their new extensions.
As for those who are freaking about not seeing Dallas Mavericks small forward Luka Doncic among those four, chill out for a second. Doncic is seen as the best player in his draft class and is reportedly going to make $202 million on his five-year extension. Given that Stein is incredibly plugged into the Mavericks organization, you can take his reporting on Doncic’s deal as gospel.
Look for these five 2018 NBA Draft classmates to see their bank accounts grow exponentially.
