Dodgers sign former All-Star and World Series MVP Cole Hamels

The Los Angeles Dodgers are adding left-handed pitcher Cole Hamels to their loaded roster.

After appearing in one game for the 2020 Atlanta Braves, left-hander Cole Hamels is signing on with the Los Angeles Dodgers the rest of the way this season.

The way Hamels’ contract with the Dodgers is broken down has him earning $1 million in guaranteed money, as well as an additional $200,000 for each start he makes for the Boys in Blue.

Hamels, 37, is a four-time All-Star and was the World Series MVP when he was a star pitcher on the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies staff.

Hamels hasn’t pitched this season so he’ll need some time to build his arm up before joining the team.

Though they are not as dominant as they were a season ago, one could argue the Dodgers are the favorite to repeat as World Series champions this year.

While they face stiff competition in the NL West from the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants, this is the same franchise that has won its division annually for the better part of the decade. It is World Series title or bust in L.A.

Hamels may be a shell of himself, but he does have big-time postseason experience on his resume from his days in Philadelphia. While his brief Braves run was a total disaster, Hamels pitched well at times for the Chicago Cubs and with the Texas Rangers in the back-half of his career. The Dodgers are hoping he can provide at least a little bit of spark to their rotation going forward.

Of course, the Dodgers can afford to pay Hamels an additional $200,000 for each start he makes.
