There is a chance this could be Luis Rojas’ last season leading the New York Mets.

Despite being the best team in the NL East throughout the season, it could be the end of the line for manager Luis Rojas if his team comes up short.

Entering Friday night’s road game vs. the division rival Philadelphia Phillies, New York holds a half-game lead over them in the divisional race. To make things even more interesting, the three-time reigning NL East champion Atlanta Braves are only 1.5 games back of their arch rival in the division. This looks to be a three-team race heading down to the wire and into the final weeks.

What is it going to take for Rojas to either keep his job or to lose it after only two seasons with it?

New York Mets: How hot is Luis Rojas’ seat as the team’s manager?

Since no team in the NL East has 60 wins at this point of the season, it is looking increasingly likely that only the division winner will be getting into the postseason this year. Given that Philadelphia has the longest active postseason drought in the National League, whatever the Phillies do this season should have no effect on Joe Girardi’s job. Brian Snitker may be a different story in Atlanta.

While Snitker probably needs to get the Braves back into the postseason to feel safe about 2022, that is arguably what it will take for Rojas. Keep in mind that the Mets had the worst record in the division a season ago. Factor in a potentially monumental collapse and all eyes will be on the Mets skipper. Not only that, but the Mets have a new owner in Steve Cohen who will be a big spender.

Simply, Rojas will keep his job if the Mets win the division. Otherwise, they will be replacing him.
