LOS ANGELES, CA – JULY 21: Closer Kenley Jansen #74 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks at the baseball after giving up a two-run home run to Wilmer Flores of the San Francisco Giants in the ninth inning at Dodger Stadium on July 21, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. Braves should sign closer Kenley Jansen

Jansen’s tenure in Los Angeles is coming to its natural conclusion, and perhaps with another World Series title on the way out. He’s not the pitcher he once was, but a veteran in the back-end with closing experience is exactly what this Braves bullpen needs. Shane Greene, Will Smith and Co. just aren’t cutting it.

Atlanta has blown arguably more games than any other team in baseball this season, leaving fans to wonder what would change if they had a competent bullpen to hold leads. Jansen can aid that approach, as he has a 3.12 ERA and 23 saves on the season. He’s a trusted source for Dave Roberts, a World Series winner and possesses some wicked stuff at his best.

Frankly, the Braves owe it to their fanbase to spend on the ‘pen, especially after letting Mark Melancon walk last offseason. That’s proven to be a major mistake, and one Anthopoulos can rectify soon.
