Ryan Day dropped a hint on who could be the Ohio State football team’s starting quarterback.

While he did not go out and say it directly, Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day may have tipped his hand when it comes to naming the next Buckeyes’ starting quarterback.

Day had the great fortune of having Justin Fields transfer to his program ahead of the 2019 college football season. But with Fields now playing in the NFL for the Chicago Bears, Day has to make his first hard decision at the quarterback position in naming his successor. Will it be Jack Miller III, Kyle McCord, C.J. Stroud or Quinn Ewers?

While he won’t outright name a starting quarterback just yet, Day made it clear it’s going to be Stroud.

Ohio State football: Ryan Day hints at who could be the new Buckeyes QB

By saying that Stroud has separated himself from the competition, one would think that means he will be the Buckeyes’ Week 1 at the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Stroud and Miller were with the Buckeyes last year. McCord enrolled a semester early and joined Ohio State back in the spring. Ewers recently reclassified to 2021 and has just set foot on the Columbus campus in August.

Ultimately, how well Stroud or any of the Buckeyes quarterbacks adapt will decide how good this team can be. Ohio State is favored to win the Big Ten once again, but a major regression at quarterback could lead to someone else taking the Buckeyes’ spot in the College Football Playoff. If Stroud lives up to the hype, Ohio State has the talent around him to go win a national title.

Look for Stroud to be the Week 1 starter for Ohio State as the Buckeyes take on Minnesota.
