After 15 years, a former Miami football teammate has been arrested for the murder of Bryan Pata.

A former Miami football teammate of the late Bryan Pata has been charged and arrested in his unsolved murder case.

The star Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman was shot to death outside of his apartment 15 years ago in 2006. The Miami Herald reports former Miami defensive back Rashaun Jones has been arrested and charged for the crime.

Jones had long been a suspect for shooting the 22-year-old star defensive lineman in the back of the head, but he had never been formally charged before.

He had gotten into a fistfight with Pata and once dated the late Miami star’s girlfriend.

Pata was expected to be taken high in the 2007 NFL Draft, but was unfortunately unable to live out his NFL dream.

This case had been cold until last year when ESPN published a story on the unsolved murder. ESPN suggested Jones was the most logical suspect for Pata’s murder. He reportedly changed his phone number the day of Pata’s murder and asked to borrow some money.

May Pata and his family receive the peace they deserve stemming from this awful tragedy.
