Mets star Francisco Lindor knows that he hasn’t lived up to the hype this season and New York as a whole needs to wake up.

In a year that had so much promise for the New York Mets, things have turned south in what feels like a blink of an eye. The team is now in third place of the NL East standings, seven games back of the Atlanta Braves.

What’s been so disappointing for this club has no question been the struggles at the plate. This includes Francisco Lindor, who has really had a tough go in his first year with the Mets. Remember when Steve Cohen called the guys out on Twitter? Well, Lindor has no issues with that.

Francisco Lindor took no issues with Steve Cohen calling the players out for their hitting woes

“We’ve been getting that message all year,” Lindor said via ESPN. “We haven’t really hit all year long. I haven’t performed. I haven’t done it. Bottom line, I haven’t done what I’m here to do when it comes to the offensive side.

“Defense, they can’t talk to me. Baserunning, they can’t talk to me, either. But offensively, yeah, criticize me. Say whatever. You’re right. You’re all right. I’m with them. I haven’t performed.”

While Lindor has battled injuries this season and has suited up in 87 games, he’s still the not-so proud owner of a .228 batting average. He also has only 11 homers and 36 RBI to his name. That’s surely not what anyone expected from him this campaign in Queens.

Lindor and the Mets just haven’t risen to the occasion this summer. With them on the outside looking in for the playoffs, we may hear Cohen take to Twitter again to let everyone know just how frustrated he is.
