A day after his son’s birth, Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud will be taking the field on Tuesday night against the New York Yankees.

It has been quite a memorable week for Atlanta Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud. This past Friday, the Braves signed d’Arnaud to a two-year, $16 million contract extension. On Monday, d’Arnaud and his wife welcomed their newborn son to the world.

Prior to Tuesday’s game against the New York Yankees, Braves manager Brian Snitker revealed that d’Arnaud will be playing for the team, then will return to the hospital.

Hours ahead of the game, d’Arnaud was reinstated off the team’s paternity list. In a corresponding move, the Braves optioned William Contreras to Triple-A Gwinnett.

D’Arnaud made his return to the team Aug. 11 after being sidelined since May 1 due to torn ligaments in his left thumb. After playing five games off the 60-day injured list, Atlanta secured Gwinnett to a two-year contract extension, which includes a club option for the 2024 campaign worth $8 million. d’Arnaud celebrated the occasion by hitting a two-run home run in the team’s 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Through 29 games this season, d’Arnaud slashed .236/.293/.406 while recording four home runs, 17 RBI, nine runs scored and 25 hits.

D’Arnaud will make his return to the team on Tuesday night to help the Braves split their two-game series against the Yankees. Then, he will spend time with his family.
