3 awful calls that screwed the Braves in Yankees series

The Atlanta Braves suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of the red-hot New York Yankees early this week. Fans remember a couple brutal calls that cost them wins.

Yes, it’s easy to point to the human element of baseball as an obvious flaw in a system designed for failure, but fans expect perfection from those trained to judge the game they love. Every inch is examined, so much so that entire social media accounts are dedicated to judging…those who are paid to judge.

In the Atlanta Braves interleague sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees, there were three calls in particular that had baseball fans down south hollering from the Truist Park bleachers.

The first call drew the ire of Braves faithful all over the Peach State. A slide attempt by 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman appeared to show the veteran first baseman reaching home plate safely. Freeman would’ve scored the tying run, but was instead called out on a phantom tag by Gary Sanchez.

Believe it or not, that was upheld by instant replay. Even Yankees fans realized they got a little lucky.

Pretty messed up, indeed.
