Keep an eye on these five teams to potentially sneak into the College Football Playoff.

Though everybody has their favorites to make the College Football Playoff this bowl season, do not be shocked if one of these five dark horses crashes their holiday party.

Any team ranked inside of the top 10 of the preseason AP Top 25 Poll is not a dark horse to make the playoff.

Whether it is Cincinnati, Iowa State or North Carolina, they did enough a year ago to give themselves a great shot at making it in for the first time based on where they started in the poll.

But what about teams that are ranked outside of the top 10?

If we are talking about extreme dark horses to make the playoff, go ahead and bet on these five.

5 teams who could crash the College Football Playoff party

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Pac-12. 854. South. Arizona State Sun Devils. 5. player

Arizona State Sun Devils national championship odds: +15000

Herm Edwards’ Arizona State Sun Devils may be dealing with a bit of controversy to start the year, but they did crack the preseason AP Top 25 Poll at No. 25. Given that they play in the weaker of the two Pac-12 divisions, Arizona State could win the south and get to Las Vegas with a playoff berth on the line. They also have a promising quarterback in Jayden Daniels to guide them there.

Pac-12. North. 4. player. 818. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Washington Huskies

Washington Huskies national championship winner odds: +10000

Last year was weird for everyone. However, the Washington Huskies look to be the most formidable challengers to the Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 North. Frankly, had it not been for COVID, Washington might have won the Pac-12. This season all hinges on if second-year head coach Jimmy Lake is the real deal in Seattle. If he is, then Washington can get back to the playoff.

With these two dark horse contenders out west, let’s turn our attention a bit more east now.
