Former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz didn’t take kindly to Jadeveon Clowney’s insulting take about guards.

Whether you know it or not, every player in the NFL has value — even the larger, flubbier ones.

Someone ought to tell Jadeveon Clowney this, as the new Cleveland Browns defensive end took an insulting shot at offensive guards on Friday, stating that they aren’t even athletes.

“We love that matchup,” Clowney said, via the Akron Beacon Journal. “We feel like they’re the unathletic guys. That guard position, they’re not real athletes down there. So they’re just physical and maulers. But we try to get in there and create those matchups for certain guys, and hopefully, we get some wins.”

Browns: Jadeveon Clowney’s comments aren’t based in reality

Every position on the football field is important, and while guards are wider and heavier-set, they have to be built that way to protect powerful, speed-rushing defensive ends like Clowney.

And by the looks of Clowney’s stats the last few seasons, they haven’t had any issue stopping him of late either. Former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz was quick to point this out, firing back at Clowney this afternoon.

The man went do the statistics! Game, blouses.

Clowney’s comments provide a funny preseason soundbite for offensive linemen preparing to face the Browns this season. It’s all the more reason to make sure the defensive lineman opposite Myles Garrett remains far, far away from the opposing quarterback.
