More tough news has come in for the Boston Red Sox, as reliever Matt Barnes is the latest player to be placed on the COVID-19 list.

Unfortunately for the Boston Red Sox and manager Alex Cora, the team is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak right now. On Monday night, it was announced that reliever Matt Barnes is the newest player to be added to the COVID list.

Barnes, who holds a 3.81 ERA this season and has recorded 78 strikeouts, joins Kike Hernandez, Christian Arroyo and Martin Perez as the known Red Sox players who are now out of action and must follow the MLB protocols before they can return to play.

The loss of these players couldn’t come at a worse time for Boston, as the team is trying to keep pace with the surging New York Yankees for the postseason. With it looking like the Rays are going to win the AL East, the Yankees and Red Sox currently hold the two Wild Card spots.

However, the Yankees are two games up on Boston, while the Mariners, Athletics and Blue Jays are close behind the Red Sox, ready to leap them next month. Cora needs his team at full strength to try and prevent that from happening.
