The BYU Cougars and the Arizona Wildcats are set to get the 2021 season underway.

Arizona is entering a new era. After things didn’t work out between the Wildcats and former head coach Kevin Sumlin, Arizona decided to move on and hire Jed Fisch in hopes of finding some form of success going forward.

Similarly, BYU is headed into something of a new era as well. The Cougars aren’t breaking in a brand new head coach, but they will be working to replace one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Zach Wilson is no longer with the Cougars and losing him will have a huge impact on how effective their offense runs this season.

Now the Wildcats and Cougars are set to get their new eras, as well as the 2021 season, started this weekend in Las Vegas.

Both teams are pretty healthy heading into this contest, but the Cougars are likely going to be missing Brayden Cosper this season. Meanwhile, there is a chance that Arizona will have to play this game without Jabar Triplett.

While it can be incredibly difficult to replace a remarkably talented quarterback like Wilson, that’s nothing when compared to the difficulty of getting a new coaching staff figured out. Arizona may find some success this season, but it seems likely that the Wildcats experience plenty of ups and downs along the way.

The Cougars will be turning to quarterback Jaren Hall as their starter in hopes that he’ll be able to get their offense going. He hasn’t had much meaningful in-game experience up to this point, which makes this match-up intriguing.
