Rafal Majka, ended his four year stage win drought, with Stage 15 of the 2021 La Vuelta a Espana on Aug. 29.

Despite it being a mountain stage, the racing was fast-paced with Majka in a massive solo breakaway effort from 87 miles out.

Rafal Majka and the breakaway

Fifty miles into the stage and Rafal Majka managed to get away from the rest of the peloton and maintain a lead on them.

The peloton splintered into several groups behind him, trying and then giving up on catching him and instead, trying to gain time on each other or minimize losses and catch up to competitors.

Team Ineos Grenadiers rider Adam Yates attempted to gain some time with another solo breakaway but in the end, only managed to gain about 15 seconds on his rivals.

Majka rode across the finish line alone triumphantly with other riders trickling in a minute or more behind him.
