Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney says his football team is almost entirely vaccinated, with only a few players choosing not to get the shot.

The Clemson Tigers are doing what they can to avoid major COVID-19 disruptions in 2021.

Head coach Dabo Swinney revealed that his entire staff and most of the team is vaccinated, per Grace Raynor of The Athletic.

“We’ve got very few guys on our team who have not been vaccinated. Very few. Our staff is vaccinated,” Swinney said.

Swinney has been a supporter of the vaccine, explaining his mentality on Tuesday.

“It’s like knowing it’s freezing outside and you’re dressed properly … you can still get a cold, but at least you’re doing everything you can to protect yourself,” Swinney said, per Marc Whiteman of WYFF News.

That’s a smart way to look at it, especially with the potential for COVID-19 to wreck a football season. Coaches like Swinney have enough to worry about. This year, teams who can’t field a big enough squad because of the coronavirus will be forced to forfeit in most conferences. The more players who are vaccinated lowers the chances of dozens landing in quarantine.

The Tigers will open the season on Saturday with a Top 5 matchup against Georgia. That game could set the stage for the season for both squads, so you can bet both head coaches will want a full-strength squad at their disposal.

Swinney’s goal for the campaign is to get back to the College Football Playoff and he’s set up to do that if luck rolls Clemson’s way.
