With fans looking forward to their weeks dominated by football, many are wondering where the collegiate sport was actually born. So, where is the birthplace of college football? Well, it all begins in the Garden State of New Jersey.

Rutger University, the state university of New Jersey, is known as the “Birthplace of College Football.” The university hosted the first-ever intercollegiate football game back on Nov. 6, 1869, against a team from the College of New Jersey, which is now known as Princeton University.

As for the end result of that game, Rutgers defeated the College of New Jersey 6-4.
