Cubs: Ian Happ calls out fans at Target Field for throwing Skittles at him

Chicago Cubs slugger Ian Happ isn’t happy with fans at Target Field for throwing things at him. Frankly, it’s tough to blame him.

It’s rare that fans throwing projectiles at a player on the field is funny, and as tempting as this is, it should not be greeted with laughter. Sure, Skittles cannot hurt someone unless aimed at the eyes or facial area, but it’s the precedent it sets that is the real issue at hand.

The Minnesota Twins can — and should — do everything in their power to find said fans(s) and ban them from Target Field. It’s the only response, and an easy one at that given the number of security cameras in the ballpark.

“I got hit yesterday with a flying object – it was actually a Skittle from the left-field stands at Target Field,” Happ said on the Bernstein & Rahimi Show on Thursday. “I felt like I got shot by like an air-soft gun. I was so mad. I turned around. I was just livid. There was a group of (individuals in their 20s), just scum. And they were throwing Skittles at me in the middle of the game. You’re like, how does this (happen)? You can’t do anything. You can’t run up there and go give them a talking to. Little things like that as a player, when you’re trying to compete on the field and entertain, it’s tough.”

Happ has every right to be angry with the fans and team security for not kicking the fans out of the stadium immediately. By making it a public point, perhaps the Twins will opt to do something about it shortly.
