The Ohio State secondary was a weak spot for the Buckeyes last year. That’s very uncharacteristic for a team that produces some of the best cornerbacks and safeties for the NFL Draft on an annual basis.
Despite a rough season last year, Sevyn Banks was being looked at as an under-the-radar draft prospect and certainly a starting cornerback for Ohio State this season.
When the Ohio State defense took the field against Minnesota on Thursday night, Banks was not on the field, which left Buckeyes fans wondering what his status is.
Sevyn Banks doesn’t start for Ohio State, but will he even play vs. Minnesota?
Ohio State was already without starting cornerback Cameron Brown so if Banks is not going to play or if he’s just not starting, it’s a loss for the Buckeyes against four-year starting quarterback Tanner Morgan.
There’s always the chance that Banks is serving an undisclosed suspension for some unknown reason and won’t start the game but could make an appearance later on.
Bill Landis reports Banks was on the field for pre-game warmups but didn’t participate in any 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 work. Banks is in uniform so that suggests he’s not injured.
