The Texas A&M Aggies will face the Kent State Golden Flashes to begin the 2021 college football season. What is there to expect at Kyle Field?
Jimbo Fisher has a brand new contract extension, keeping him with Texas A&M for the next decade. Now it’s time for him to prove he’s worth it.
The 2021 season starts on Saturday against Kent State, a team that went 3-1 last year while averaging 49.8 points per game.
The Aggies also suffered just one loss in 2020. Their 9-1 record was promising, but the defeat to Alabama kept them out of the SEC title game.
Is this the year Fisher and company make their move? Will Kent State turn into a surprise hurdle?
Texas A&M vs. Kent State odds for Week 1
The Aggies are expected to win this one by a wide margin. They come into the game as 28.5-point favorites.
Texas A&M injury report vs. Kent State in Week 1
Tight end Baylor Cupp should be good to go despite battling a leg injury. Wide receiver Caleb Chapman (knee) and Hezekiah Jones (shoulder) arebanded up. Their status for Saturday is in question. Fellow wide receiver Demond Demas is back from a foot injury.
Defensive lineman McKinnley Jackson was arrested in early August and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor marijuana possession. He is suspended indefinitely.
Michael Clemons suspension update
Later in August, starting defensive lineman Michael Clemons was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, failure to identify/giving false information, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana possession and driving with an invalid license. He has been suspended indefinitely.
Texas A&M vs. Kent State prediction for Week 1
Texas A&M has its eyes set on challenging for the SEC, but they’ll need to take a big step forward to prove they can compete with the Alabamas of the world. Luckily, that’s not the task in Week 1.
Haynes King will replace Kellen Mond at quarterback with the chance to ease into things against a very suspect Kent State defense. He’ll have the support of one of the better rushing attacks in the SEC.
The Aggies may have a tougher time slowing down a bright Kent State offense. Then again, they’re bigger, faster and stronger than the opposition. They’re also bringing back a ton of experience that should be up to the task.
