Kansas football went winless in 2020, but they opened the 2021 season with a victory. So when was their last win before South Dakota?

Kansas football hasn’t had much to cheer about recently. Fortunately for the Jayhawks, 2021 is looking up.

On Friday, Kansas started off their new season with a 17-14 win over South Dakota.

They were 11-point favorites and needed a touchdown with just over a minute to play to get by the Coyotes, but a win is a win, especially when you haven’t tasted victory in a long time.

When was Kansas football’s last win?

As Brett McMurphy pointed out, Friday was the first win for the Jayhawks in 677 days.

That was on Oct. 26, 2019 against Texas Tech. A week after nearly upsetting Texas, they came out and bested the Red Raiders 37-34.

Whatever optimism win over Tech might have produced, it had a long, long time to fade away.

The next step will be to grab a first victory against FBS opposition. A win over Big 12 competition would be even better.
